Mission
The mission of the Knight
Ridder Center
for Excellence in Management (KRCEM) is to promote excellence in global
management in the United
States and internationally through
cross-disciplinary education, applied research, community outreach and
special projects. The Center pursues its mission through programs and
activities on campus and with other institutions and universities in the United States
and overseas. KRCEM actively pursues funding from both public and private
sources.
Background and Overview
KRCEM was created in April, 1995, with generous endowments
from the Knight Ridder Corporation, Alvah H. Chapman, Jr., and the State of
Florida
to fund five Eminent Scholar chairs to promote excellence in management.
These chairs are in Management and Ethics, Management Development, Global
Marketing, Strategic Management, and International Management. Each Eminent
Scholar is a tenured faculty member in a university department but also
forms part of the KRCEM. The Center also has a six person, full-time staff.
The Center actively collaborates with a number of
organizations and institutions in carrying out its mission and is currently
undertaking programs in a variety of areas. Our programs include the Energy
and Business Forum; the Small and Medium Enterprises Center of Excellence
(SMECE) funded by USAID; the Winrock/USAID agribusiness project in Central America and a number of Executive and
Professional Education programs, among other projects. Some of our partners
include the Caribbean and Central American
Action (CCAA); Winrock Foundation; USAID and the Organization of American
Sates Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
